Having never left Montana, 16 year-old Nicky Hunt is about to touch down in Lisbon, Portugal with her dad, a reclusive pioneering geneticist. Travelling to a global medical convention where Dr Hunt will announce a revolutionary breakthrough in his research, this promises to be the adventure of a lifetime…
But things begin to unravel at the airport shortly after landing. Returning from the bathroom, her dad isn’t where she left him: he’s vanished. Eventually discovering that he’s apparently already checked into the hotel, she follows - and almost immediately falls asleep when she arrives as jetlag takes its toll.
Several hours later, Dr. Hunt returns, elated and relieved to see Nicky, explaining to the concierge that his daughter has emotional problems and has done this sort of disappearing act before. And that would be the end of the story - but for one thing: this man is not her father.
With her world suddenly upended, Nicky finds herself tangled in a global plot that has left her alone in a foreign land, with her father’s life at risk, and some very dangerous people out to get her. Unsure who – if anyone – she can trust, Nicky Hunt needs to grow up fast.
