Weeley, Essex, 1970. Mike Hooper is a washed-up musician, who never quite manages to complete anything. It’s a quality that broke his marriage, and is now fast destroying his relationship with his teenage daughter, Lottie. After yet another wash-out Donkey Derby for the local council, he lights on an idea that will realise both his frustrated ambition and repair his relationship in one grand moment: a rock concert.
Suddenly, Mike has 364 days to regain his daughter’s respect and, even though he has no idea where to start, he’ll walk through flames to prove himself worthy. Enlisting motley mates, a disgraced music promoter, an unexpectedly approachable music journalist, and ultimately several hundred Hell’s Angels, he’ll battle anyone who gets in his way, from Lottie’s stepdad (and Clacton’s resident used car salesman) to the fossilised chairman of the local council, who just so happens to be his ex-father-in-law with a significant axe to grind.
Then suddenly, when the Isle of Wight festival is abruptly cancelled, a weekend’s worth of thundering A-list rock talent is left in dire need of a gig, with only one place to go… Will Mike rise to the challenge and pull off the impossible, or will he get crushed under the weight of yet another catastrophic failure - and 150,000 hippies?
Based on an unbelievable true event, The Great British Woodstock promises to be an uplifting, toe-tappingly joyous cinematic experience that will transport audiences back to one of the most iconic festivals the UK has ever seen, and leave their hearts brimming with love, joy and nostalgia for the summers of yesteryear.
